For want of a better thing to do, I thought I’ll organize my photos. And, quite predictably, I went on time travel, and by the time I got back, it was too late to carry on with the task. But what a journey it was!
My memories of my existence starts at a little house in an area called Malleshwaram in Bangalore. The house had a small verandah, a smaller bedroom and a still smaller kitchen and of course a bathroom and a toilet. It was way back in the early 1980s and the concept of combined toilet and bathroom was yet to become popular.
They say “Some people are born great, some people become great, some people have greatness thrust upon them” Similarly some people are born hunch backs like the Quasimodo of ‘Hunchback of Notre dame’. Others through their exertions, taking greater and greater loads on their back, instead of achieving greatness, end up with broken backs. Still others get this backs broken for no fault of theirs. The hunchback in my story belongs to the third kind.
“Madam, you are not buying lottery ticket today?” Gopal the lottery seller’s question brought her back to reality. As usual, Gopal was there at the bus stand with his board full of lottery tickets. Three days a week Veena allowed herself to spend money on buying them.
It was a desperate ploy, I admit. My interest in the supreme power was not to utilize it or harness it. I never dreamt I would one day wield it. I never knew the ultimate power could be tamed by anyone, lest only me. I judged that I had grown up with a massive power of will myself. I had survived so far, I bet on my own willpower to survive, which I am good at.
A routine they say is good to have and mine in the morning starts off with perspiration. That day was no different.. Sun yet to awake from his deep slumber, a canopy of darkness still engulfed the road ; a bus here and an auto there dotted the road. Brisk morning walkers wanting to burn [...]
Given 1 in 3 in India move from the city they were born in, is migration for a better tomorrow innate in us ? If yes, is it moot to argue against migrations from India while migrations within India is so common ?
