First hand account and review of the famous movie – Raavan by our correspondent at large M/s Ukidve. What a filim Mani saar made ? Beautiful….
A parody of the formulaic Bollywood movie making process. Warning : Not for Intelligent A-Holes.
RAAVAN isn’t a movie you expect from Mani Rathnam – it is an epic disappointment and most of that is Rathnam’s fault. I would much rather suggest re-watching an Anjali, Roja, Nayakan or Bombay than watch RAAVAN.
I would like to say I am naming the concluding episode of my bride hunt story ‘The great Indian bride Hunt Rotations’ as by now I had acquired sufficient skill in bride management to see more than one girl at a time and smoothly rotate from one bride to the next and then back. But in the name of truthfulness and honesty I refrain from making such a claim. For most who have read the second part it would have been a foregone conclusion that the concluding part would be named ‘The great Indian bride Hunt revolutions’. But that seemed cliqued and I wanted something more original. So I named it ‘The great Indian bride Hunt Rotations’. Isn’t that what originality is all about?
Raajneeti was one of the most awaited movies of the year for many reasons. Very few Indian movies have an ensemble cast; Prakash Jha has made some very good social-political movies like Mrityudand and Gangaajal and as the title suggests, this movie was expected to be an out and out political drama unlike his earlier movies where Politics was not the main theme but just one of many backdrops. Prakash Jha had been active in politics and even contested two Lok Sabha elections from his home state Bihar; once as an independent (2004) and once from Lok Janashakti Party (2009). All this had raised my expectations from the movie.
Bollywood is also beginning to adopt the trend as seen in the case of Munnai Bhai MBBS and Dhoom. Keeping with this trend, having seen the popularity of my earlier post about my bride hunt, I could not resist posting a sequel. So here I continue the story of my misadventures.
In the late 80s, before the advent of cable TV, when the 9.00 o’clock serials on Doordarshan used to capture the attention of the Indian middle class, there was one of these serials called Mr. Yogi. It was a comic-tragic series where Yogesh Ishwarlal Patel, an NRI (Non Resident Indian) returns to Bombay for a bride. As a school boy, having a good laugh at the expense of Mr. Yogi, being in a similar situation 20 years down the line was the last thing on my mind. But then isn’t that what life is all about? A series of unfortunate events occurring when you least expect them to. I actually fail to remember if Mr. Yogi ultimately found a suitable bride. I wonder whatever happened to Mr.Yogi, the same fate awaits me.
Story, Action, Drama, Romance, Comedy and whatever else you can think of – Kites lacks every one of it. It is a life-less damp squib and the Roshans disappoint miserably…
Stories, like clay, provide an endless medium of possibilities limited only by the author’s imagination. We want to unleash a sea of these stories. Hence INDImag’s Katha Sagar Contest..
My Name Is Khan – It would have made more sense to make a movie with a person afflicted with some disorder and focus on his relationships. Or a movie just on Terrorism. Or a movie on the plight of ethnic communities in the US after 9/11. Or a superhero SRK flying in to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
