TOP-5 FEBRUARY 14-2010

INDIMag's Top-5

Change being the only true constant, Mr.Unexpected lurks at every corner. As if springing a surprise wasn’t enough, this rascal often comes with an entourage. At times the entourage includes smiles and ‘Awww’ s and spreads a sunshine and a smile — pleasant unexpected. On his more dreary outings, fear, death, anger and disbelief accompany him ushering in varied scenes : hunter being hunted ; sad endings despite how easily we could have prevented them ; loud sound bytes ; posturing by a rogue neighbor. Unexpected is also liberally woven into our tales and stories, he is the lead villain we speak against in our advices and cautionary notes.

This ‘Mr.Unexpected’, expectedly, is omnipresent.

Here’s “Top-5″ Posts from across the blog-o-sphere that we deem worthy to be shared with our readers on the selected theme — The Unexpected.

Be sure to check us weekly for updates. Please use our ‘CONTACT US’ to alert us to a good post or mail us at indimag@gmail.com .

Happy Reading !

  1. Gurukul — Haddock : Haddock beautifully chronicles, with cute pictures, how an ingenious school strapped for cash, purchased train bogeys at an auction and converted them into classes for it’s school. I cannot begin to appreciate the amount of ingenuity in this. It was cheaper, it was one of a kind, it would evoke interest and above all, provide a school where one was not possible. Talk of  someone looking Mr.Unexpected in the eye and thrashing him with a broom. Haddock does a marvelous job of chronicling his day at this unique school with endearing pictures. His post is a ride you wouldn’t want to miss.
  2. This Is Not Democracy, But Goondagiri — Indian Home Maker : If anyone other than the man in question had uttered ‘ This is not democracy, it is goondagiri’ he would have found sympathy and acknowledgement. But if the person happens to be Mr.Mutalik, the self anointed guardian of Indian morals, whose goons assaulted women in Mangalore’s pubs last year in broad daylight, it evokes laughter ; it evokes ‘he deserves it’. Given this statement was made by Mutalik after his mooh-kala(blackening of his face) ceremony by miscreants, it evokes a strange sense of justice that this man who flouted norms, decency and laws was brought to justice in a way that was both vigilante(his style) and symbolic — blackening of the face traditionally(talk of  Indian customs!) denotes shame. Indian Home Maker hosts a wonderful piece on this un-lawful outing by Mr.Unexpected that has brought smiles and jubilations  – see the comments.
  3. That’s All Your Honour — Sudhir Kumar :  In this bristling vent on the state of Indian politics, media and people in general, Sudhir pens his take on how we should have seen the Pune blasts coming, how we ought to stop bending backwards accommodating our rogue neighbor, how media and public are so easy pawns in cases like Telengana’s state demands. In short expect Mr.Unexpected and not sit on your palms he says..
  4. 19 Th Floor, Panorama Heights — Neha Silam : A intriguing title unfurls a beautiful suspense story on the lines of Madhur Bhandarkar’s Fashion, delving into Mumbai’s glamorous fashion world and it’s not so glamorous dark alleys. As Neha’s story unfolds, you begin to expect the unexpected. The gripping narration ensures you are on the edge and at the end you are left with, you guessed it, Mr.Unexpected. A great light read.
  5. Open Letter To My Son — Shilpa Garg : Asked to write a post on what coming of age meant to her, Shilpa has penned this touching letter that talks of a mother’s apprehensions and fears when the Miss.Unexpected sets up a date in the soon to be teenage years of her son. Full of emotion, simple and straight from the heart, this letter warns of  Unexpected and how she hopes her son(and Arjuna) will dodge the Unexpected’s minefield.

INDImag.com TOP 5 Winner of the week

Guria could not do the Top-5 this week and I’m substituting for her. Given I participated in Blog-a-ton myself and people have voted for their favorites there, it did not make sense for me to include any of the “What-if” posts.

Winners, please feel free to download and display the top-5 picture on your post and link back here. Again, congrats and happy blogging !

Madhu Rao

I'm Madhu Rao. You know how blogs and discussions are supposed to be dynamic and exciting but they're usually dull and boring? I have some practical ideas to present them in an entertaining way -- with your help. The result, hopefully, is that people stay awake, have a good time, and return-contribute to INDIMAG. I'm the publisher-founder of INDIMAG and would love to hear from you as to how we are doing. Drop me a line at indimag@gmail.com ie indimag [at] gmail [dot] com with any questions, thoughts, ideas or a plain "Hello". I would appreciate it.
